Step 1: Download and Print the Bat Template
Begin by downloading the printable bat template and printing it on an 8.5 × 11-inch sheet of white cardstock paper. Cardstock is sturdier than regular printer paper, which makes the bat easier for kids to color, cut, and assemble without the paper tearing.
Before moving on, make sure the entire bat printed correctly and that none of the outside edges were cut off. Place the printed template on a flat work surface and gather your coloring supplies, scissors and glue stick.
Step 2: Color the Bat Crown
Invite your child to color the bat crown using crayons, markers, colored pencils, or acrylic paint pens. They can stick with classic Halloween colors like black, gray, purple, and orange, or get creative with bright colors, fun patterns, and silly details. Step 3: Cut Out the Crown Pieces

Mark where the two headband strips overlap, remove the crown, and glue the strips together at that spot. Hold them in place until the glue begins to stick, then carefully trim away any excess paper from the end of the headband. Always remove the crown from your child’s head before trimming.
Step 7: Attach the Bat Wings
Apply a small amount of glue to the folded tab on each wing. Press one wing onto each side of the bat crown, positioning them so they stick outward and look ready to flap. Hold the glue tabs in place for a few seconds, then set the crown aside until the glue is completely dry. Once dry, gently bend or adjust the wings to give them a fun three-dimensional appearance.
