Using a single sheet of green 8.5x11 paper, kids can fold their very own set of witch fingers that slip right onto their hands—perfect for pretending to cast spells, stir cauldrons, or fly off on a broomstick. It’s simple, silly, and a must-try craft for any Halloween celebration!

This origami witch craft for kids is both easy and exciting, making it ideal for classrooms, Halloween parties, or family craft time at home. Parents and teachers will love how quick and mess-free this paper folding Halloween craft is. All you need is green paper (standard 8.5x11 works perfectly), and in minutes, kids will be showing off their new witchy fingers and acting out their favorite Halloween scenes. This project builds fine motor skills and introduces the art of origami in a fun, accessible way. It’s also a fantastic classroom craft because it requires minimal supplies and clean-up while keeping kids completely engaged.

One of the best parts about this project is how much imagination it inspires. Once their origami witch fingers are complete, kids can use them to pretend to stir bubbling potions, wave a magic wand, or fly through the sky on a broomstick. It’s the perfect combination of creativity, storytelling, and spooky Halloween fun. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this simple craft turns into a full afternoon of play and laughter!

This craft is extra special because it was inspired and created by my daughter! She came up with the idea herself after folding a set of origami claws and deciding they would make the perfect witch fingers for Halloween. From the green paper to the playful design, this project is completely her creation—and it’s been a huge hit with friends, classmates, and fellow little crafters. Seeing kids invent, create, and bring their own Halloween ideas to life is what Artsy Kids Zone is all about!

Materials You'll Need:

  • Green 8.5x11 paper

Step 1:

Grab a sheet of green printer paper. You can also use plain white or colored paper, but make sure it’s smooth and not crumpled — folds work best on flat, clean paper.

Step 2:

Fold the bottom right corner up so that the bottom edge lines up perfectly with the left edge. Crease it well.

Step 3:

Now take the top left corner (the only top corner left!) and fold it diagonally across to the opposite side. You should have a pointed shape at the top.

Step 4: Fold both bottom corners up and in so their edges meet the slanted sides you just made.

Step 5:

Fold the bottom edge straight up to meet the top edge. Press down firmly to keep the folds crisp. This will make a triangular shape.

Step 6:

Take the right corner and fold it across so that its edge lines up with the center of your paper.

Step 7:

Now “roll” that same fold over again — almost like you’re rolling up a scroll or wrapping paper — to make a long, skinny point.

Step 8:

Fold it over one last time to finish forming the claw shape.

Step 9:

Fold the tip out.

Step 9:

This is the tricky part: find the small pocket created by the folds, and tuck the paper you just folded into it. This locks your witch finger in place!

You did it! Slide your finger into the open end and admire your spooky new Witch Finger.Make five for one hand — or go full witch mode and make ten!

⚠️ Be careful: These paper claws can be surprisingly sharp. Don’t poke, scratch, or chase your siblings with them (too much).
