What is it about Unicorns? I thought Unicorns would go out of style but they are still holding strong! My daughters are obsessed with them and one of them is even requesting a Unicorn Birthday Cake for her upcoming party.
I can see why they are so cool! Who wouldn't love a magical creature that is beautiful to look at? Although they don't exist, we can still have fun pretending they do! Many moons ago under a different blog, I created a Unicorn Mask that went viral on Pinterest. I've since moved that mask over to this blog and have been busy creating more Unicorn projects to go with it.
Did you ever make Cootie Catchers as a kid? I did! Cootie Catchers are also known as fortune tellers. This is a simple project for kids to learn basic origami skills.
Directions to download your FREE Unicorn Cootie Catcher template at the bottom of this post. Print on 8.5x11 white paper. Cut out the pieces.
Fold the cootie catcher in half both horizontally and unfold. Then fold the cootie catcher vertically and unfold.
Flip it over so the printed side is facing down. Take the bottom right corner and fold the point into the center. Repeat step on each corner until all four corners are folded.

Flip the cootie catcher again so the printed side is facing down. Take the four corners and fold them into the center again.
Fold the cootie catcher in half vertically and undo the fold. Then fold horizontally and unfold.
Slip your fingers under the flaps and open the cootie catcher.
Glue the top sides together and then the bottom sides together. You will no longer be able to open the cootie catcher if you do this but it will help the puppet stay together for kids to play with.
Glue the horn on top of the hair in the front with a glue stick.
Glue the four legs to the cootie catcher. Glue two coming out the sides underneath the mouth and two at the bottom. Glue the tail on the left or right side underneath the upper legs.
How to download the Unicorn Cootie Catcher? Sign up to become a member of Artsy Kids Zone to download. The best part is that memberships are FREE! Not only will you gain access to this project but you will also gain access to all of Artsy Kids Zone downloads.
